Night & Day Hike (MARCH 2012)

By Lewis Cox

Friday 16th
Our journey started at 20:30hrs. After the exciting finish to the Cubs parade we walked to Streatham Common Station and got on the train to West Croydon, with chatter and Dubstep filling the air.

After arriving and a bucket of fried chicken later we got the tram to Lloyds Park where we would begin our night hike from.

The journey from that point was (meant to be) 4.7 miles so, a steady paced walk would get us there in 2 hours with a couple of stops (the time now was 23:00hrs)

Saturday 17th

Yeah…. We were still walking and had taken a detour to some random estate and had just walked about a mile in the wrong direction. So we didn’t have high spirits as we slumbered our way to the campsite low on energy and very tired finally arriving at it 03:30hrs.

We put up the T3’s (Dome Tents) and didn’t really make them so perfect as some of the poles in our one was broken, but with the help of Mowgli they went up and we went to sleep.

Morning
We woke up at 08:00hrs and started three fires to practice our fire making skill.

We cooked and ate our vegetarian MOD ration packs and packed up, before leaving we stopped in at the tuck shop to get some sweets for the hike back.
The journey and map reading was easier on the way back and we got back around midday.
